Aigle, crossroads of the Vaud Alps: everything you can explore from our appart·hōtel

  • Aigle
Aigle holds a unique geographic position: nestled at the confluence of the Rhône and the Grande Eau rivers, at the entrance to the Vaud Alps, the town gives immediate access to exceptional mountain territory. It is also the world headquarters of cycling — the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) and the Centre Mondial du Cyclisme are based here, making Aigle an international cycling landmark. Our appart·hōtel, just 200 metres from the station, puts you at the starting point of it all. Free parking, electric vehicle charging points, an equipped kitchen for packing a picnic or recovering after effort: Nonanteneuf Aigle is designed for active stays.

Cycling from Aigle: routes for every level

Road cyclists will find regional classics in the area around Aigle. The climb to Leysin (around 1,000m elevation gain) is a benchmark for climbers. Towards Villars-sur-Ollon and Gryon, roads offer rolling gradients and cols with views over the Dents-du-Midi and Lake Geneva. For cyclists who prefer the flat, the Route du Rhône links Aigle to Lake Geneva in the north or the Valais to the south, on terrain accessible to all. On an e-bike, the region opens up even further — hire is available at several points in town. Mountain bikers can access the marked trail networks of the Chablais, the single tracks around Les Mosses and Leysin's bike park, reachable by ASD train from Aigle station (around 40 minutes). The return trip is by train with the bike — easy and effort-free.

Hiking from Aigle: itineraries for every mood

Walking starts right in town. The wine trail climbing from Aigle through the Chablais vineyards offers a first hour of walking between history, landscape and the castle — accessible to all, no specialist equipment needed. For experienced walkers, routes into the Vaud Alps multiply quickly. The traverse of the Vaud Prealps between Leysin and Les Mosses, the ridges above Anzeindaz or the Tour des Muverans trail are full-day hikes with altitude and panoramas. In summer, the Diablerets glacier (3,000m) is accessible from the resort, less than an hour from Aigle. For families, walks around Les Mosses, Leysin's themed trails or the chamois path from Villars are manageable with children from age 6 or 7.
